Civil War Ball

The morning of the Civil War Ball I had my hair in rag curls. I had to get up at six o’clock AM. Dad dropped us off at Safeway…

Lydia at the BallMrs. Stiningger was waiting for us. She brought us to class.

We waited for 30 minutes. While we were waiting, Mrs. Stiningger was renting a dress. Then practice started.

First the teacher started us off with the March. The march started with all the girls on one side and all the boys on the other. We got in a line and each girl joined a boy’s hand. We did the “X” and joined hands and we had 4 then 8 then 16. Then we broke up until we were in tow’s again, then we did the bridge. Then we got in groups of six and did the Elbow, the Dosey Do, the Sashay, and the Real. We took turns. Do you now how to do that?

Then the teacher taught us the hardest dances. We then went to the Kemp’s house and Mr. Kemp took out steaks and Mrs. Kemp helped fix up our dresses. Then we played a game. Then Mrs. Stiningger and Mrs. Kemp took out me and Cynthia’s rag curls. Then we ate pizza and drank pop. Then we went to the dance. Some people were still eating supper. Then it started with announcing all the girls. Then we did the march, the bridge, and so on. Then we were taught easy dances. Like step step step hop. Or heel and two heel and two clap clap clap. It was a lot of fun. Then we did my favorite dance. All the girls got in a line and sat in chairs. A boy got to choose a girl to dance with him. It was so much fun. Cynthia and I were tired. I fell asleep in the car on the way home.

How wonderful that you were able to attend.
My friends in Wisconsin have been hosting one for a few years now. It truly is a great time to fellowship with other large homeschooling families. I know that us with our 10 children are not the biggest family that goes.
Dressing for history is always great fun.
    Blessings
