The Gazette: “Baker’s Dozen”

The Gazette Article

The Colorado Springs Gazette has published an article on our family and the TLC experience. You can click through and read the article–published this morning–here. It is a great article. Here are some of the good lines from it:

  • “Love is what it’s all about,” Chris says. “Love is why we have 13 children.”
  • The size of the Jeub family makes them unusual. But they’re also, in a lot of ways, completely normal…
  • “When people think of 13 kids, they think of their kids times 13: 13 2-year-olds,” he says. “God spaces them out.”
  • “I usually tell people, ‘Once you have three kids, you can have 10 — you only have two arms, and you’re already outnumbered,'” Wendy says.
  • The family goes grocery shopping only once a month and spends less than $600. Seriously.
  • With so many people in the same house, you might think the Jeubs never talk to anyone in the outside world. Not so, they say. They often have friends over for dinner, sometimes two or three additional families at the same time. “It would be pretty boring otherwise,” Wendy says. (Heh, I love this one)

The closing of the article is hilarious. But, I’ve probably extended copyright law already, so you’ll have to read it for yourself. Click here to read “Baker’s Dozen” by Gazette Reporter Andrew Winike.

Can’t wait to see the show. Being from CO we read the Gazette online daily. The article was great I’m sure the show will be too.

Congratulations on the great article! Your family is beautiful and all other qf families appreciate your excellent witness!

“and then sent them off to read and play games quietly — amazingly, impressively, unbelievably quietly.”

Praise God — what a great testimony to God’s faithfulness. Excellent article… not a mean bone in the author’s body. Hooray!

Thanks for sharing it with us.

What a great article!! So positive — the reporter writes with amazement, but not with the “you’re crazy” amazement, which is common, eh? Very nice. We’re looking forward to getting the tape from my f-i-l tomorrow; he has taped all three shows for us.

That article rocks! I absolutely love the last comment!! I get that all the time and I only have 6. People are always telling me I’m crazy. You are a wonderful witness and your children are lovely!

What a pleasant surprise to see the Jeub family featured in the Gazette. Of course, I had to cut it out and share it with all my friends and proudly announce that this was the guy I had been blessed to work with for 6 months.

We loved the show. We knew of it because of your post on the momys digest. We are a family of 14. We just had our 12th child 3 weeks ago. We know about how crazy people must think you are. Your family is a great example of why God created families.

A coworker of mine brought in the tape of the show so we could watch it. You would all know her, her name is Judy Jeub. I’m so glad she brought it in to share with us before ECFE class started. It was so great to see a ‘normal’ (as normal as any family can be) family recognized for all that they do for each other and the community. I can’t wait to catch the show again sometime.

Great article! I really like the last comment. I actually told someone something similar once. They asked if I knew how that happened and I said, “Yes, but don’t tell my husband.” They laughed. Oh, the reason they said that; we have eight. So far it’s tied up; 4 boys, 4 girls. We’ll see if the tie is broken if God gives us any more. Our youngest is 4 months so I’m waiting to see if we’ll be expecting in another couple of months. That’s how it has happened for the last 4. They are all about 14 months apart. God bless!
