What are the recipes for your Turkey Sandwiches and Beans?

The TLC episode showed us making BBQ turkey sandwiches for 200 guests, plus a pot of beans (which are always the favorite of the meal). We have received many requests for these recipes. Here they are!

3-Bean casserole

  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 can pork n beans
  • 1 can Lima or butter beans
  • 1 lb. hamburger browned (with onions)
  • 1/2 to 1 lb. bacon (brown separately and cool, breakup)
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. ketchup

Mix everything and add 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup ketchup (save some of the bacon grease–and add to this mixture). Cook in crock pot about 1-1/2 hours–or can cook in oven at 350 degrees for about 55 min. Double for a church potluck, or x10 for the Jeub Birthday Bash!

Turkey Sandwiches

Note: You may have to cut this recipe down a bit. This feeds 190 people.

Cook four 20-lb turkeys individually. We prefer electric roasters. Skin and debone the turkeys. Take all left-over meat and gather a #10 can of tomato sauce, 1 bottle of French dressing, 1 bottle of molasses, 1 bag of brown sugar, 1 large jug of ketchup, mustard, and I think that’s it.

Take a very large roasting pan. In the bottom, layer a fair amount of tomato sauce, about 4 cap fulls of French dressing, a really thin drizzle of molassas, sprinkle a handful of brown sugar, 6 cap fulls of ketchup and 3 cap fulls of mustard. Layer an inch of turkey. Repeat till the whole pan (or two) is full.

Bake for an hour, stir it all up, bake for another 20 minutes, and ready to serve on buns. Keep tasting it as you stir, add more ingredients until it tastes awesome.

I used your idea for a family party and also of the turkey sandwhiches. Economical and great!! Thank you for the ideas…now I want to know how to make the pinatas!

The pinata is pretty easy and fun! You will need 1 large round balloon about 10 inch. Streamers any color you want, cut into 1 inch squares, or tissue paper cut into 1 inch squares. Newspapers cut or ripped into 1 inch X 8 to 10 inch strips. Household glue. A white flour and water paste mixture. Give yourself 5 to 7 days ahead to make a pinata. It takes some patience and practice.

    1. Blow up your balloon to the size you want, don’t over fill.

    2. Dip your strips of newspaper in the flour/water paste and gently apply to balloon. After one layer you may have to let it dry overnight.

    3. When you have a couple of layers of newspaper done and dried it is time to add a hook of some type to hang the pinata from. We use some wire.

    4. When your pinata is a thick as you want it and it is totally dry and has a nice anchor, now it is time to decorate it.

    5. Take a pencil and put a square of the 1 inch streamer and wrap it around the pencil, now put 1 drop of glue on the paper and with the pencil stick it to the ball or paper. Do this about 300 times until it looks the way you want it to.

    6. You may have to pop the balloon inside the paper ball just stick a pin through and that should do it. Cut a small hole in the top of the paper ball and fill with candy.

    7. Have a party!

Can your turkey sandwich recipe be frozen? It sounds very good.

I would love to read your cookbook, but am not able to order it online. Do you think you could put a few recipes on your site that way I could try them in my home? Thanks
